A graduate of University of Central Florida with a degree in Molecular Biology and Microbiology, Angie Contreras-Galindo originally learned about St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine (SMUSOM) while on a vacation cruise to the Cayman Islands. Researching the school back at home, she really liked what she read about the program, professors, and graduate success. “When I came to St. Matthew’s it was a beautiful experience. The classes are small and I love that the professors are always available. I never felt alone or left behind if I didn’t do well on an exam, since the professor would reach out immediately after you received the grade with the materials and guidance you need to succeed. I also found a close friend group which was great. They were always there to cheer you along.”

As she had in her undergraduate years, Angie excelled academically at SMUSOM while also volunteering her time and serving her fellow classmates and the local community. Angie was awarded the St. Matthew’s “Dean’s Award” for her excellent academic performance in the Basic Sciences, her work as a TA in the Anatomy, Histology and Neuroscience courses and her volunteer work in the SGA. Having just finished her comp exam she is studying for the upcoming USMLE Step One exam. Her advice to students looking at St. Matthew’s? “You are going to really enjoy it. It will be challenging like all med schools but you will have all the resources to succeed and the professors will be there for you.”
