At St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine, Dr. Mark Doherty has direct reporting responsibilities to the Chancellor and Clinical Dean and oversees the clinical rotations for medical students throughout the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. This oversight includes synchronous and asynchronous communication with the students, as well as ongoing policy development. Additional responsibilities include accreditation data gathering, preparation, and reporting, as well as licensure reports and school/accrediting body site visits.
Dr. Doherty began his professional activities in 1991 as an adjunct instructor of health and wellness courses while completing his Ph.D. at Ohio University. Following the completion of his Ph.D. in Education, Dr. Doherty served as the Coordinator for Marketing, Health Promotion, and Special Events for WellWorks, Ohio University’s employee wellness program. He was in charge of supervising and evaluating student staff members, clerical staff members, and certified massage therapists. Dr. Doherty was instrumental in developing various aspects of the program’s health marketing strategies, including special events, Web site, logo development, mission statement, etc. and the initiation of the therapeutic massage program.
In 1997, Dr. Doherty moved to Louisiana to begin a professorship at The University of Louisiana Monroe where he worked with his colleagues to broaden the scope of the Kinesiology Department. He served on a variety of university committees, served as the Secretary of the Faculty Senate, and was instrumental in the success of numerous state and national accreditation site visits.
As a faculty member, Dr. Doherty was responsible for academic advising, class development/instruction/evaluation at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He was promoted to Department Head where he supervised faculty (full and part-time), Outside of work, Dr. Doherty is a sports official who works youth, high school, and adult ice hockey, lacrosse, and soccer. He is also an avid photographer and guitarist.
