Gabriel Dakubo, MB, ChB is a medical educator, biomedical researcher, academic book author, and a clinician. He has over two decades of teaching experience including four years at offshore Caribbean medical schools. 

Dr. Dakubo is an expert in molecular medicine, which is inclusive of cell and molecular biology, histology, and genetics. Following his clinical training at the University of Ghana, he pursued post-doctoral fellowship in molecular medicine at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. He then joined a company he co-founded (Mitomics Inc., now mDNA Sciences Inc.) as Senior Scientist. His accomplishments included biomarker development and fabrication of a microarray chip for transcriptional profiling of mitochondrial genes. As a Chief Medical Officer a few years later, he championed the commercial development of the company’s biomarker products. 

He is the author and editor of five books on cancer research: Mitochondrial Genetics and cancer (Springer 2010), Field cancerization; basic science and clinical applications (Nova Science, 2011), Cancer biomarkers in body fluids; Principles (Springer, 2016); Cancer biomarkers in body fluids; Biomarkers in circulation (Springer, 2016), and Cancer biomarkers in body fluids; Biomarkers in proximal fluids (Springer 2019). Dr. Dakubo is well-published in peer-reviewed journals including Nature Neuroscience and is a reviewer and an editorial board member for several high-impact journals.

External research grant reviewer for National Medical Research Council of Singapore, Genesis Oncology Trust, Auckland, Australia, and Windsor and Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation, Canada 

Dr. Dakubo’s research has evolved over the years beginning with molecular paleopathology and developmental neurogenetics and switching into cancer genetics and presently medical education. His passion is in non-invasive deployment of biomarkers for cancer management. While an expert in mitochondrial genetic alterations in cancer, he also has a keen interest in the inter-genomic communications that occur in the cancer cell, as well as the Slaughter’s concept of field cancerization.  

He has given several presentations at academic conferences, and specifically on mitochondrial science to scientists, senior executives and stakeholders from organizations and companies including: Roche Diagnostics, LabCorp, Qiagen, Gen-Probe, Transgenomic Inc., the Bostwick Lab, Athena Diagnostics, Exiqon, Enzo Life Sciences, Aureon, Access Genetics, Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories, Warnex, the Food and Drug Administration, Urology group at the Cleveland Clinic, and John Hopkins University.

He has several issued and pending patents on innovations in mitochondrial genetics for cancer management 

Dr. Dakubo is also an Adjunct Professor of Molecular Medicine and Human Anatomy in the division of Medical Sciences at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, and of Anthropology at Lakehead University, Canada.
