Universidad del Sagrado Corazón Partnership Agreement

Collaboration establishes a new educational pathway for aspiring doctors and veterinarians in Puerto Rico.

GUS Medical and Veterinary Schools – Saba University School of Medicine, Medical University of the Americas, St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine and St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine – are excited to highlight this new partnership with Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, which will enhance the medical education opportunities for Puerto Rican students who plan to pursue careers as practicing physicians or veterinarians. A major benefit of this collaboration is the $10,000 USD partnership scholarship for eligible Universidad del Sagrado Corazón students who matriculate with a GUS Med & Vet institution.

In addition, current and former (within three years after graduation) Universidad del Sagrado Corazón students who have met all eligibility requirements, including achieving an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, will receive several partnership benefits. They will benefit from a guaranteed admissions interview, maintain eligibility for additional grants and scholarship, and experience streamlined entry into one of our three MD programs or our DVM program. As part of the admissions requirements, students must satisfactorily complete the interview, provide two letters of recommendation and have successfully completed the required prerequisite classes as part of their undergraduate degree.

“The alliance with GUS Medical and Veterinary Schools represents an important step in the development of the School of Health and Sciences as a premier hub for undergraduate preparation for graduate and professional studies in medicine and the healthcare professions,” shared Gilberto J. Marxuach Torrós, President of Universidad del Sagrado Corazón. “Sagrado offers an exceptional pathway for students aiming to become healthcare professionals. Our commitment is to provide them top-tier opportunities to access medical schools and other professional schools, and with this agreement with GUS Medical and Veterinary Schools we continue to make significant strides toward achieving this vision.”

Additionally, Anuchka Ramos, PhD, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost of Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, noted that “Sagrado has a legacy spanning over five decades of offering academic programs in health sciences, natural sciences and social sciences. This agreement reaffirms our commitment to an academic project of excellence and to providing clear pathways toward the professional future of our students. Expanding our partnerships with prestigious international universities strengthens and diversifies the opportunities for each student to achieve their goals in the field of healthcare.”

“We at GUS Medical and Veterinary Schools are very excited about this partnership with Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, as both institutions believe in sharing knowledge and resources through collaboration,” noted María D. Feliciano De La Cruz, MBA, Regional Associate Director of Admissions. “As a Puerto Rican myself, I have seen the positive impact Universidad del Sagrado Corazón has had on the community; we look forward to welcoming their students into our three schools, Saba University School of Medicine, Medical University of the Americas and St. Matthews University.”

GUS Medical and Veterinary Schools deliver expansive medical education and hands-on training for future doctors, veterinarians and international healthcare leaders. Our programs feature individualized support, dedicated faculty members and rigorous learning opportunities, which prepare students to succeed as medical practitioners in the U.S., Canada and around the world. Students spend the Basic Science portion of their programs on one of our island campuses and the Clinical Medicine portion (rotations) in the U.S. and Canada, where they develop knowledge and skills that greatly enhance their ability to provide real care for patients and their families.
