How to Apply as a Transfer Student
Follow these three simple steps to submit your application:
1. Gather your documents:
- MCAT scores
- Personal statement
- Undergraduate GPA
- Work history/resume
- Recommendations
- Dean’s Letter (Letter of good standing from the registrar’s office, outlining academic progress and any record of disciplinary action.)
2. Complete your application through SMU’s application portal.
3. Upload your unofficial transcripts directly to the application portal.
Please note that official transcripts from all previously attended colleges are required before enrollment.
Transfer Evaluation Process
St. Matthew’s University may accept transferred course credits exclusively from accredited medical schools listed on the World Directory of Medical Schools. We do not award credits for Basic Medical Science courses completed online, through distance education, from non-accredited institutions, or from other transitional programs (e.g. chiropody, dentistry, osteopathy, or podiatry).
Our Office of Admissions evaluates each candidate’s application and supporting documents on a case-by-case basis to determine acceptance, credit recognition, and program entry points.
Transfer Scholarships
Upon admission to the MD program at St. Matthew’s University, transfer students are automatically considered for our Transfer Scholarship.
| Candidates: | Citizens, dual citizens, or permanent residents of the United States and Canada.* |
| Academic Criteria: | Candidates will be reviewed based upon a combination of several criteria that have been submitted with their application. This includes MCAT, undergraduate GPA, work history, and recommendations. |
| Award Amount: | $10,000 upon acceptance into the program. The award is disbursed over 10 semesters and directed against tuition only.** |
| Ongoing Eligibility: | After matriculation a student must remain in good academic standing and progressing in a timely manner (no remediation) toward completion of the program. |
| Awards: | Candidates will have three business days to accept the award by notifying the Scholarship Committee at scholarship@StMatthews.edu. Scholarship Awards will only be disbursed as a credit against tuition. |
*Transfer Students – individuals who attended the MD program at another school.
**Effective for students matriculating during or after January 2024.
