Dr. Seetharama Rao is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anatomical Sciences, and Course Director of the FOCM. Dr. Rao received his MSc degree in Human Anatomy and his Ph.D. degree in bioscience from the Kasturba Medical College of Mangalore. He has 45 years of teaching experience in Human Anatomy and Developmental Anatomy. He has also provided research guidance for several MD and PhD students on their dissertation/thesis.
Dr. Rao is also well known in the genetic toxicology field for his expertise in mutagenesis research, and was awarded a gold medal for his outstanding research in 1989. He has published many original research articles in international journals as either first or senior author.

St. Matthew's curriculum was designed by U.S.-based faculty and parallels training at top U.S. medical schools. It involves ten semesters of concentrated academic and clinical study split between Basic Sciences and Clinical Sciences.
