George Thomas has been appointed as Co-Clerkship Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. In his current role he provides guidance to current third year UCF & ACOM medical students on their OBGYN clerkship. He also has worked as Curriculum Coordinator for the OBGYN Residency Program with HCA/UCF and continues to perform clinical duties as an Attending Physician at HCA North Florida.

A graduate of the University of Michigan, he was awarded University Honors and his research was published in “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.” He came to SMUSOM and actively engaged in the community on Grand Cayman.

He then matched into a four-year OB/GYN residency at Mount Sinai Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago. He attended the Congressional Leadership Committee hosted by the ACOG to lobby to decrease the U.S. Maternal Mortality Rate. In his final year, he was named Academic Chief Resident, and was nominated for the ACGME David C. Leach award for fostering innovation and improvement in their residency program, humanism and increased efficiency and emphasis on educational outcomes.

“St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine gave me the chance I needed to prove I could be a physician. I am forever grateful for the chance they gave me. SMUSOM really prepared me to be a well-rounded clinician.”
