Erasmus University College Partnership Agreement
Explore our new medical education partnership with a public institution in the Netherlands.
St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine (SMUSOM) and Erasmus University College (EUC), a public education institution in the Netherlands that offers an interdisciplinary Liberal Arts & Sciences degree to its international student base, are happy to share the details of this collaboration that will support the educational journeys of aspiring physicians and future leaders in medicine.
As part of the newly established agreement, EUC graduates who have successfully finished the Pre-Med major, and maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (75%), are eligible for direct entry* into SMUSOM’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.
EUC alumni who desire to become SMUSOM medical students will also benefit from a streamlined admissions experience, individualized application support, a guaranteed interview, and eligibility for up to $65,000 USD in scholarships!
Cornelis Vink, Acting Academic Director and Head of Department Life Sciences of EUC shared: “We’re excited to partner with St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine, offering our Pre-Med major students a seamless pathway into SMUSOM’s prestigious 4-year MD program and empowering the next generation of physicians to launch global medical careers in the U.S., Canada and beyond.”
Sucharitha Konda, Business Development Coordinator for St. Matthew’s University, shared: “We are pleased to announce our partnership with Erasmus University College in Rotterdam, a distinguished institution known for its commitment to academic excellence and innovative learning, creating new opportunities for our students to thrive on a global stage.”
Established in 1997, SMUSOM has educated, trained and supported 2,300+ MD program graduates. During the 4-year MD program, successful participants will undertake five semesters of classroom and lab-based learning on our Grand Cayman campus, followed by five semesters of Clinical Medicine rotations at affiliated teaching hospitals, clinics and medical centers in the U.S., and select elective rotation sites in Canada. Our accreditor, the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), is recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). SMUSOM alumni go on to become practicing physicians in the U.S., Canada and internationally.
Notably, this collaboration exists between Erasmus University College and all three GUS Medical Schools – Saba University School of Medicine, Medical University of the Americas and St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine.
*To receive direct entry, EUC graduates must submit an application, share relevant academic transcripts, satisfactorily complete an interview with the SMUSOM admissions team, provide two letters of recommendation and write a personal statement (500 words max.).
